Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
